One of the Northeast's most scenic railways, the Western Maryland Scenic offers regular excursions between Cumberland and Frostburg. 2021 marked a major turning point for the line with the completion of the long effort to restore former C&O 2-6-6-2 #1309 to operation. Now the largest steam locomotive operating regularly in the east, the 1309 has drawn thousands of fans to Western Maryland.
