– Lancaster & Chester (L&C) “Blue & Gray” 1964+ offers a nifty box car scheme that was literally seen all over the USA from 1964 into the 1980s.  The Lancaster & Chester livened up the drab brown/red box car scheme that was applied to these cars when delivered from Pullman in 1952.  Instead, L&C kept with the spirit of the early 1960s, where bright colors and graphics began to really rule the rails, forging new identity for railroads.  The railroad adopted a two-tone scheme of blue on the bottom half of the car and gray on the top.  This beautiful car includes the sharp, large “The Springmaid Line” logo on the right side of the car in yellow and multiple shades of blues.  The logo is amazingly recreated on our model – you have to see it with your own eyes to believe it!  The left side of the car includes the classy Lancaster and Chester stylized logo.  The “Springmaid Line” is a reference to the railroad’s one-time owners, Spring Mills, which is a textile company that became famous for producing towels, sheets, and other cotton textile products sold under brands such as Springmaid.  The railroad hauled both inbound materials and outbound finished goods.  The railroad also served other shippers in a region of South Carolina that is still a vibrant railcar consumer today.  These models have the early version of the Superior 9’ door, and Miner handbrake housings and wheels like the prototype did.  Finally, these models ride on Tangent’s gorgeous Barber S-2 50-Ton plain bearing truck, complete with separate brake beam detail.  Our Lancaster & Chester models each have specific lettering stenciling sourced from actual high-resolution photos.
